Sumario:The aim of this work is to present information on the regional base of lithic resources in the archaeological localities El Ranchito and Copacabana (District of Ischilín, Córdoba, Argentina). Different lithological types are described on the basis of the characteristics of outcrops, macroscopic observation and petrography, taking into account source and quality of raw material. On the other hand, we aim at reaching an agreement on the nomenclature and characteristics of raw materials in order to build up a collection of samples. The macroscopic and petrographic analysis have allowed grouping the raw materials, represented inthe lithic assemblages and resources available in the area, into three large groups, siliceous rocks, quartz/metaquartzites and volcanic/subvolcanic rocks. These results have allowed us to consider that prehispanic populations went to the Copacabana river basin in order to gather a variety of rocks of immediately available and local origin, both from primary and secondary sources.
