Sumario:Multicriteria evaluation techniques with fuzzy methodology are applied to present models of spatial aptitude for the  development of pre-Hispanic agriculture and current agriculture in south Yocavil Valley (Catamarca, Argentina). The Weighted Linear Combination method is employed using Geographic Information Systems. It was noted that the area with the greatest potential for agriculture mainly coincides with the pre-Hispanic archaeological record. The historical evolution of agricultural production from pre-Hispanic times to the present allows us to postulate that environmental conditions are not the only or those that most influence economic organization.
