Sumario:This article attempts to characterize the intellectual elite fraction in Cordoba in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a group of individuals who were self-considered and recognized, at least for a segment of society, as “intellectuals”. But for that, it is first necessary to refer to the elite in general, ie, outline a historical and sociological characterization, although rough, of the social, political, economic and cultural elites, their composition and their power bases and consider the weight of immigration. After reviewing some bibliography about the issue, an analysis of the intellectual figures is proposed from their practices, considering the multiplicity of existing criteria for the recognition of those figures at the time.
