description This article attempts to reconstruct some of the central aspects of the reorganization of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) carried out by Victorio Codovilla. For this purpose, we proceed to examine through relevant testimonies and reports the organizational function provided to the PCE by Codovilla, historical leader of the Communist Party of Argentina (PCA) and member of the Executive Committee of the Communist International. The role of Codovilla results, as demonstrated in the text, fundamental to explaining the work of the PCE for its conversion into a mass party. The leader of the PCA in Spain imported a form of top-down centralization, subject to Moscow and contrary to any possibility of dissident expression, which a few years earlier had become a standard practice in the political life of the Argentine section From our perspective, thus, Codovilla was within the PCE the bearer of a logic that was pre-established in his own party.
