description This paper attempts to contribute to the study of women in public space by analyzing and reconstructing their participation and sociability in a small town from Córdoba (Argentina) during the 1930s, Colonia Caroya. Their participation will be contextualized in a village-sociability framework through studying the spaces of participation they were allowed to them in a recreational association. The institution’s founding years will be analyzed here during a period in which many changes were experienced in Argentinian society, mainly regarding female political participation and its spaces of sociability. It is argued here that the fact of being in this association, spending time together, sharing experiences, and participating actively allowed those women from Colonia Caroya to experience democracy and equality, altering in this way meaningfully their lifestyles.
