Social representations were generated around this issue such as how should the city be organized and who were responsible for disorder. This paper reconstructs the port´s representational elements as a place; it approaches the territorial dimension of the struggles generated by the direction that urban order should take. It does so mainly analyzing the letter written to the governor in 1854 by a large group of neighbors, who state their vision on the influence on local life of the port and its inhabitants.
