The results obtained in this study indicate that administration of diazepam accelerate the suppression of the conditioned response to the empty sipper tube. The obtained data are consistent with the effect of other anxiolytic-like treatments on consummatory extinction and operant procedures using the lever press response. However, they are opposite to those observed in other consummatory procedures that used water for thirsty animals and other instrumental tasks in which diazepam delay the extinction of the response. The data are discussed in relation to the controversial role of anxiolytics in the extinction of a previously acquired response. La frustración puede definirse como la reacción emocional que se produce ante la disminución u omisión inesperada de un reforzador. Uno de los procedimientos experimentales utilizados para inducir frustración es la Extinción consumatoria, en ella las ratas reciben una solución azucarada al 32% y luego sorpresivamente no reciben la recompensa. Los resultados obtenidos señalan que la administración de diacepam acelera la supresión de la respuesta condicionada ante el bebedero vacío. Los datos hallados coinciden con el efecto de otros tratamientos ansiolíticos sobre la Extinción consumatoria y procedimientos operantes que utilizan la respuesta de presión de palanca. Sin embargo, son opuestos a lo observado en otros procedimientos consumatorios, que utilizan agua en animales sedientos, y en otras tareas instrumentales en las que el diacepam retrasa la extinción de la respuesta. Los datos se discuten en el marco del papel controversial que tienen los ansiolíticos en la extinción de una respuesta previamente adquirida.
