The SM was identified with at least 3 of 5 criteria of the NCEP ATPIII, we applied a structured questionnaire. We determined HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose Abnormal Fasting (GAA), hypertension (SAH), body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (NCC). Plan Analysis: prevalence, t student, Chi2.Results: Of the 726 donors, 85.1% were male, according to the ATPIII criteria, 54.8% (398) had a GAA, 63.2% (458) had hypertriglyceridemia, almost 17% (121) presented HDL hypocholesterolemia, 44.1% (320) were overweight by BMI, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 54.4%, in comparison by gender, men had a statistically significant difference compared to women, showing an OR = 2.27 (p = 0.0001, 95% CI 1.44-3.60). Conclusions: MS is highly prevalent in this population, which involves implementing preventive measures, changes in lifestyles and identify risk factors to be free from diseases like diabetes, hypertension, obesity and MS itself. |

Antecedentes: El síndrome metabólico (SM) que incluye obesidad, diabetes mellitus, hipertensión arterial, dislipidemia, etc. es una causa importante de morbilidad y mortalidad a nivel mundial. Se ha reportado que 15.9% de los donadores de sangre presentaron alteraciones en la glucosa plasmática en ayuno.Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de SM en una población de donadores sanos en un hospital de segundo nivel.Material y Métodos: Estudio transversal analítico, contó con 726 donadores sanos que acudieron al banco de sangre del HGZ36. El SM se identificó con al menos 3 de 5 criterios de la NCEP ATPIII, se aplicó un cuestionario estructurado. Se determinó colesterol HDL, triglicéridos, Glucosa Anormal en Ayuno (GAA), hipertensión arterial sistémica (HAS), índice de masa corporal (IMC), circunferencia de cintura (CCi), circunferencia de cadera (CCa). Plan de análisis: prevalencia, t de student, Chi2.Resultados: De los 726 donadores, 85.1% fueron del sexo masculino, de acuerdo a los criterios de la ATPIII, el 54.8%(398) presentaron una GAA, el 63.2%(458) presentó hipertrigliceridemia, casi el 17%(121) presentó hipocolesterolemia HDL, un 44.1%(320) presentó sobrepeso por IMC, la prevalencia de SM fue de 54.4%, en cuanto a la comparación por sexos, los hombres tuvieron una diferencia estadísticamente significativa comparados con las mujeres, presentando un OR=2.27 (p=0.0001, IC95% 1.44-3.60).Conclusiones: El SM tiene una alta prevalencia en esta población, lo cual implica implementar medidas preventivas, cambios en los estilos de vida e identificar los factores de riesgo para no padecer enfermedades como diabetes, hipertensión, obesidad y el SM propiamente dicho.
