His works includes a deep analysis of the work of Glauber Rocha, Cinema Novo and the book El discurso cinematográfico, in which he proposes a new reading of the European theory of cinema, with a special focus on artistic, avant-garde cinema and politically committed cinema. The conversation took place at the National Cineteca of Mexico, just before the inauguration of the XV International Congress of Cinematographic Theory and Analysis (organized by SEPANCINE, the Mexican Association of Cinematographic Theory and Analysis), which coincided with the II International Meeting of Mexican and IberoAmerican Film Researchers, summoned by the National Cineteca, as well as with the IV COCAAL, (Congress on Cinema and Art in Latin America), managed from Brazil. The congress opened with the conference of Dr. Ismaíl Xavier, about Memory and Politics in Latin American Cinema. El presente artículo es una entrevista a Ismaíl Xavier, uno de los investigadores y teóricos más reconocidos de Brasil. Entre sus trabajos se cuenta un profundo análisis de la obra de Glauber Rocha y del Cinema Novo y el libro El discurso cinematográfico, en el cual elabora una relectura de la teoría europea del cine, con especial atención a las vanguardias artísticas y el cine políticamente comprometido. La conversación se llevó a cabo en la Cineteca Nacional de México poco antes de la inauguración del XV Congreso Internacional de Teoría y Análisis Cinematográfico (organizado por SEPANCINE, la Asociación Mexicana de Teoría y Análisis Cinematográfico). Ese año el congreso coincidía, además, con el II Encuentro Internacional de Investigadores de Cine Mexicano e Iberoamericano, convocado por la Cineteca Nacional, y con el IV COCAAL, Congreso sobre Cine y Arte en América Latina, organizado desde Brasil. El congreso se iniciaba con la conferencia inaugural del Dr. Ismaíl Xavier, sobre Memoria y Política en el Cine Latinoamericano.
