In this context we propose to cover a redefinition of the object of study through “a social history of education”, which shouldn’t be understood as a synonym of “primary school”. This work deals with some variables and methodologies to address the history of secondary schooled population from a socio-cultural perspective and raises questions based on the study of theme- related bibliography. Furthermore, a deconstruction of the historical, pedagogical object of study which would involve the study of new aspects of the educational system: health, hygiene, school architecture, genre and behavioural patterns in youth, among others. The increasing interest in socio-educational topics and the emerging diversification of the field makes it necessary to devise new inquiring strategies to address the object of study. There is no intention to reproduce certain concepts used in the past that might bring about some conflict in the reconstruction of the educational experiences in Argentina during the XX century.  Resumen:En los últimos años, el interés por una historia de la educación ha despertado una suerte de redescubrimiento epistemológico por parte del historiador. En este escenario, proponemos abarcar una nueva redefinición del objeto de estudio mediante una “historia social de la educación”, que no se constituya sólo en sinónimo de “educación primaria”. El trabajo aborda algunas variables para encarar una historia de la juventud escolarizada en el ciclo medio desde una perspectiva socio-cultural. Se deja planteada una agenda de interrogantes a partir de la indagación en la bibliografía que ha abrevado en el tema.Se propone una deconstrucción del objeto histórico pedagógico que estaría corporizado en los estudios de nuevos temas en relación al sistema de enseñanza: salud, higiene, arquitectura escolar, género, prácticas juveniles, entre otros. Ante el creciente interés por los temas socio-educativos y la incipiente diversificación del campo, es menester elaborar una serie de estrategias investigativas para abordar el objeto de estudio. Relegamos la reproducción de ciertas instancias conceptuales que, trasladadas al pasado, parecieran poner en tensión la reconstrucción de las experiencias educativas acaecidas en la Argentina del siglo XX.
