The present article reviews the experimental tasks recently developed to study prosocial behavior in rats. In addition, the present article discussed the findings of those experiments in order to assess whether empathy is the mechanism that underlies prosocial behavior in rats. Recientemente el comportamiento pro-social se ha convertido en un tema de interés dentro de las ciencias cognitivas. Aunque algunos autores han sugerido que la pro-socialidad es específica de los humanos, hallazgos recientes en ratas sugieren que la pro-socialidad es un fenómeno compartido por diferentes especies de animales. El presente artículo realiza una revisión de las tareas desarrolladas recientemente para evaluar la conducta pro-social en ratas. Asimismo, se discuten críticamente los hallazgos de dichos experimentos con la finalidad de analizar si el mecanismo que subyace a la conducta pro-social en ratas es la empatía.
