Sumario:A quadratic disturbance was introduced in a plane wavefront and the y-derivative of the wavefront was observed by means of a polarization shearing interferometer. Using the same interferometer and spatially filtering one of the beams that interfere, a reference beam was constructed and with it the phase of the disturbed wavefront was directly obtained. © 1997 IOP Publishing Ltd.
